Ketamine's Re-Entry Into the Medical Realm

The following three articles published in the Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS) and by the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP) are just a sampling of the plethora of information that is being released regarding Ketalar (Ketamine) and its many uses in the pre-hospital and hospital arenas, for behavioral control, induction for RSI, intubation, and analgesia. The myths that have long surrounded the medication have been debunked with significant supporting evidence returning home from war with our military medical personnel, and Ketamine's safety margins have been shown to be much more extensive than previously thought. These articles cover some of these changes in theory, practice, and the myths that once tainted the Class III medication's "taste" in medical providers' minds. Much more information is still needed, and many cohort studies are underway to further cement whether or not Ketamine/Ketalar has earned a permanent spot in the medical providers' toolbox, or if it is only temporarily making a comeback.
